WHAT TO WEAR WHEN THE WEATHER IS WEIRD

Updated: Jun 2, 2019

According to the calendar, we’re officially in May, however you would be forgiven for thinking we’re still in February thanks to the Great British weather. This unpredictable climate makes it quite the challenge to know what to wear in the mornings, when thunderstorms turn to sunshine in the blink of an afternoon.

Rest assured though, all the summer staples and springtime pieces need not go to waste…

WHITE ON WHITE

White on white is the ultimate chic girl go-to, bringing the summer vibes no matter what the season. Ecru and off-white is the colour palette of choice, and gives the perfect base to accent a pop of colour. This combination can do no wrong, so pair straight jeans with shirts or jumpers and skirts with oversized jackets, always keeping it tonal. Gold jewellery and snake print were made for head to toe white.

PASTELS

Pastel hues are the epitome of springtime dressing and luckily they're ready to work overtime with transitional weather. Yellow and lilac are a winning combo and brighten up even the rainiest days. Mint green is another classic colour that will instantly bring sunshine to your outfit, worn best in a blazer over purple, peach or denim. No matter if they're worn with bare legs and or long trousers, pastels bring the summer vibes even when the jet stream doesn't...

CYCLING SHORTS

One to divide opinion for even the most dedicated fashionista, the cycling shorts are sticking around for the foreseeable. Once long forgotten in the 90's, the influencers have brought them back into the mainstream and have proven their style status. Not quite a trouser, but not a short short, they're the perfect antidote to weird weather. Best served with an oversized blazer, they also work with puffy blouses, boyfriend shirts and basic t-shirts. Like their infamous older sister- the jean- cycling shorts are a hit with any shoe. Great for those in-between weather days.

SLIP DRESSING

It’s the oldest trick in the book, but there’s nothing that guarantees ultimate style points like a slip dress/skirt & knitwear combo. Throw on a jumper, or button up a cardigan (extra marks if only the top few or bottom few buttons are done up), and the day is yours with minimal fuss. A t-shirt and leather jacket also work perfectly for those awkward 'it's freezing-then-it's-not' days and thankfully, slip styling looks perfect with sandals, boots or trainers, so there's really no excuse...
