TRENDING: Fringed Jackets

Here's a sentence I never thought I would say: I am taking fashion inspiration from Joe Exotic. And if you don't know who he is fire up Netflix and watch Tiger King immediately (thank me later). Since the program aired, not only has tiger print come back into our lives and wardrobes but there has been a resurgence in fringed jackets. Specifically the suede/leather variety. And who am I to resist?

I've always been a big fan of a fringed number, but the perfect style and fit always passed me by. Ganni's white version took Instagram by storm last year and after missing out on the H&M dupe, there's been a tasseled hole in my closet.

Strictly not just for the ranch, a suede cover up is surprisingly versatile. Pair with slinky slip dresses and skirts for a Scandi-girl edge, throw over basic t-shirt and skirt combos for an off-duty vibe and of course team with denim for a rodeo effortlessness that still packs a sartorial punch. Avoid looking too cowgirl by keeping accessories low-key and simple; plain boots, chic bags and buckles to a minimum.

Thankfully, high street heroes Topshop, ASOS and Nasty Gal have come up with a variety of styles to suit every need from classic leather jacket to oversized boxy cuts. Also look on eBay, Depop and Etsy for authentic and vintage suede looks that need re-homing. Don't be put off by the price tags either, this is a style that never goes out of the limelight, regardless of whether Joe Exotic is around or not...
